Lake’s ferry resumes normal schedule

Peel Ferry, the free ferry service on Bull Shoals Lake, has returned to its normal schedule for the first time in more than two months, the Arkansas Department of Transportation said.

The 12-vehicle ferry, which connects Arkansas 125 on either side of the lake near the Missouri border, has resumed operating daily from 6:40 a.m. to 8:20 p.m.

The department announced on March 30 limited hours of operation for the ferry, the last one publicly operated in Arkansas, to maintain employee and traveler safety during the coronavirus pandemic.

The limited hours included three in the morning and three in the afternoon with no weekend service.

An Arkansas Highway Police office also was assigned to the ferry and travelers had to remain in their vehicles.

The department said travelers will still have to remain in their vehicles.

The number of motorcycles on the ferry will also be limited in order to remain 6 feet apart.
