E. coli shuts down popular swimming spot
MOUNTAIN HOME, AR (KAIT) - High levels of E. coli in lake forces Region 8 beach to close.
The Corps of Engineers' Mountain Home Project Office announced Tuesday it closed the Highway 125 swim beach on Bull Shoals Lake until further notice.
The Arkansas Department of Health found "higher than acceptable E. coli levels during routine testing," according to a news release from the Corps.
The high concentrations, according to ADH officials, could be from run-off following recent heavy rains.
The Corps will post signs indicating high bacterial levels and warning swimmers from entering the water.
"Once bacteria levels are within the acceptable range the swim beach will reopen," the Corps said.
For more information on the status of other recreation areas on Bull Shoals Lake, contact the Mountain Home Project Office at (870) 425-2700.
